5 Top Activities at Fish Creek Provincial Park

The Fish Creek Provincial Park is an urban park in Calgary, most of it remaining in a natural, forested state. It’s the second biggest urban park in Canada, and also one of the largest in North America.

Because of its natural foliage and sights, it’s wonderful to go here for a change of pace from the busy city. It’s a place where you can calm yourself and just enjoy being in nature.

It’s a great place to bring your family, perfect for kids of all ages (nursery, preschool, elementary school, even high school and college kids) as well as senior citizens. There’s an activity that fits everyone who goes here, for sure.

What activities can you do in Fish Creek Provincial Park? We listed some fun things you can do in this park below.

Bird watching is a quiet art. There are over two hundred species of birds here that you can observe.

From great blue herons, to geese, there are plenty here. You can even spot some bald eagles if you’re lucky, as well as some raptors and red-tailed hawks.

If you’re a fan of quiet activities and have a keen eye for detail,  bird watching can be an enjoyable activity for you.

2. Hiking/Biking

If you’re a hiker or a cyclist, you’ll also enjoy the fantastic trails and beautiful views in this park. The park has over 80 kilometers of pathways you can hike or bike in.

Do note however, that biking isn’t allowed in the Sikome Aquatic Facility. Hiking and biking are great ways to stay fit during this time.

The adults of the family will be glad to know that fishing is allowed at the Bow River and Fish Creek. There’s a lot of trout there, making it a fantastic fishing area.

However, make sure to check Alberta’s regulations for all kinds of bait restrictions, catch limits, and all the rules concerning fishing.

Who knows, you just might be preparing your next seafood dinner from your catch!

4. Swimming

In the summer, you can swim at the Sikome Aquatic Facility. We guess it’s time to put your swimming lessons to good use.

It’s a safe place to swim and enjoy the cool water. It’s also a great way to bond with your family and play water games.

5. Wildlife Watching
