Calgary Winter Club is a recreation centre in North Haven, south of Nose Hill Park. They were founded in 1959 by Roy Farran through the funding he received from the first 1,200 club members.
Honestly, this recreation centre is the most impressive I’ve seen in Alberta. They boast a vast array of facilities, including swimming pools, bowling alleys, badminton courts, and tennis courts.
When it comes to tennis programs, they offer two options: for youth and adults.
They also have an elite program designed to help young players compete in provincial tournaments and attain scholarships from top schools in the US and Canada.
I also love that they turn tennis into a fitness activity through special programs like their cardio tennis program. You can sign up for these programs by becoming a member and downloading their app on the App Store or the Play Store.

Aforza Tennis, formerly known as The Tennis Academy, is one of the oldest tennis clubs in Calgary. Founded in 1974 by Karen and Jeff Spiers, they offer programs and facilities for tennis and pádel (a mix of tennis and squash) players in the city.
Currently, they have tennis programs that cater to young and adult tennis players. They also have an academy designed to provide competitive training for those aspiring to become professional tennis players.
These training programs are some of the best in the city, as they’re conducted by a team of highly experienced coaches led by Jeff himself, an Alberta Tennis Hall of Fame inductee.
They also have an equipment store where members can purchase various items, including recycled tennis balls sold for $25 per 100 balls. I view this as a huge positive, as it helps reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills.
