The 5 Best Dog Boarding Spots in Calgary Your Dog Will Love

Facility Cleanliness: Cleanliness is non-negotiable. We looked around the facilities and checked if the kennels were cleaned regularly. We checked if there was a designated area for play and another for rest.

Trained Staff: We can't stress this enough—experienced and well-trained staff can make a world of difference. We checked if the staff had training and certifications in pet first aid and pet emergencies.

Socialization Opportunities: Dogs are social creatures, and being stuck in a kennel all day can make them stressed or anxious. We checked if the boarder offered socialization opportunities like group playtimes or doggy activities.

Personalized Care Plans: The best boarders offer personalized plans based on your dog's unique needs—whether it's a special diet, medication schedule, or behavioural quirks.

When I first got my dog, I trusted a budget dog boarding service to take care of my beloved pup while I was away on a weekend retreat.  Upon my return, I was met with a rather thin and anxious puppy who was in dire need of a bath.

Come to find out, there had been no structured playtime or nap times—they hardly fed him or anything.

Since that time, I’ve vowed never to leave my puppy anywhere. With the help of the rest of The Best Calgary team, I’ve researched all the best dog boarding places in Calgary.

After tons of “paws-on” research and exploration, here are our top picks for the best dog boarding services in Calgary. Trust us—these places are the real deal, and your furbabies will thank you for it with endless tail wags and slobbery kisses!

How much does it cost to use dog boarding services in Calgary?

Using dog boarding services in Calgary costs at least 35 CAD per night. The actual price will vary depending on the breed of the dog and any additional add-ons and fees.

The Petropolitan Downtown is a swanky hotel for dogs. The rooms, or should we say, suites and condos, are well-furnished and super comfy. People said their dogs looked more relaxed and pampered than they ever did at home!

Needless to say, the high-end vibe at Petropolitan is definitely a hit. It’s clean, safe, and has everything a dog (or a dog owner) could ask for. Your dogs even get fresh linens and room service. Yes, room service for dogs!

Every dog who stays here also gets three walks a day, nutritious meals, and activities tailored for them. We also observed that dogs who are a bit shy get special care that keeps them happy and engaged.

Many dog owners also loved the convenience of the door-to-door pick-up and drop-off service.

However, a few people did complain about how hard it is to book during peak season. They require first-time guests to have a trial stay before making a reservation, which can be a bit of a hassle when you have a holiday trip to catch.

Pros

  • Luxurious suites and condos
  • Pampering environment
  • Room service for dogs
  • Three daily walks
  • Nutritious meals
  • Plenty of activities
  • Door-to-door pick-up and drop-off

Cons

  • Hard to book for first time guests

BowDog Canine Specialists is good for those looking for reliable and attentive dog boarding. They offer 24-hour supervision, giving pet parents the peace of mind that there’s someone always there for their pet.

Another thing dog owners liked was the plush, antimicrobial bedding. Many told us their dogs came back home looking so cozy and well-rested that they almost didn’t recognize them.

The recorded nose-to-toe health checks are a nice touch, too. Many pet parents told us getting daily updates on their dog’s health put their minds at ease. They also love that their dog gets good attention because of the small staff-to-dog ratio (1:20) during group plays.

We also appreciate that they have activities for dogs to socialize and knock out most of their energy.

Plus, the option to bring your own food in meal-sized portions was a great add-on. But if you forgot, you could opt for their premium lamb-based kibble for just $3 a day.

Pros

  • 24-hour supervision
  • Anti-microbial bedding
  • 1:20 ratio in group play
  • Recorded nose-to-toe health checks
  • Option to bring your own food
  • Premium lamb-based kibble available

Cons

  • Requires dog vaccines before check-in

Lewis loves hanging out there

Lewis loves hanging out there. He is worn out every time he came home. We are going to board him over the holidays and we know he will enjoy it

I’m never worried when I am away and he is boarding there

The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and very professional. My dog loves to go there. I’m never worried when I am away and he is boarding there. When he returns home he is always happy but very tired from playing.

Steel Arrow might be the place for you if your dog is social and loves a homey vibe with other dogs. Jessica isn’t just your average dog boarder—she’s literally worked with wolves in Mongolia.

Many people told us they felt totally at ease leaving their dogs with her. They liked that Jessica’s passion for animals shines through in every interaction.

We also liked that the dogs she boards are not relegated to small kennels. They lounge on the couch, join in on family events, and get loads of love and cuddles.

But what people loved most? The fact that their dogs get individual attention, including daily feedings, adventure walks, and mental stimulation exercises.

However, it’s worth noting that Steel Arrow doesn’t take dogs with severe anxiety or highly reactive behavior. This makes sense, given the family setting, but it can be a bummer if your dog needs more specialized care.

Pros

  • Social environment
  • Homey atmosphere
  • Daily feedings
  • Daily walks
  • Mental stimulation activities.

Cons

  • No dogs with severe anxiety

Our dog loves staying with her even with her separation anxiety

We are so thankful to Jessica @ Steele Arrow. She provides a real peace of mind when on holidays as she posts pictures and doesn’t mind the check in texts to make sure all is going well. Jessica is very knowledgeable and friendly but most importantly our dog loves staying with her even with her separation anxiety! I would recommend Steele Arrow to anyone needing boarding/walking services for their pups!

If you’re looking for a place where your dog can run, play, and feel at home, Muttley Crue is a great place to consider.  The facility itself comes with a fully turfed yard, perfect for the daily walks.

And when it comes time for your pup to rest, we noted they try to avoid kenneling as much as possible. They have cozy couches for snuggles and play structures to keep dogs entertained.

They have round-the-clock care, so there’s always someone with your fur babies. You could even watch your dog on one of their many webcams! Thanks to their ODoggy app, you can check on your pup anytime, and it’s totally free.

The only downside is pet parents need to provide their dog’s food, which can be quite of a hassle. If you don’t pack enough food for the entire stay, they’ll fetch it for a $20 fee.

Pros

  • Round-the-clock care
  • Webcams to monitor your dog
  • Free ODoggy app
  • Fully turfed yard
  • Couches and play structures
  • Avoids kenneling as much as possible

Cons

  • Must provide own food
  • $20 fee for food pick-up

Puts a huge smile on my face and puts my mind at ease

I’ve boarded my pooch a couple of times with the Crue and I have been more than impressed each time with just how much effort and love the team puts into her stay. When I see how happy my dog is in her daily report cards it puts a huge smile on my face and puts my mind at ease that she is having a great time and is safe and well cared for.

We knew they were in good hands

We have been using Muttley Crue to board our two dogs for a few years now. We just got back from a two week vacation, the longest we have been away from our pups. We knew they were in good hands, but the daily photos and email updates from our pups were a lot of fun and gave that extra reassurance/taste of home while we were halfway around the world- it’s also fun to be able to watch the whole group of doggos on the webcams from their app-you can tell they have fun there 😁 10/10 would recommend.

Country Club Resort is a fantastic option if you’re looking for a place where your dog can play, relax, and get lots of attention.

Each corral here is a massive 5000 square feet, so there’s plenty of room for dogs to burn off energy and have fun. And when it’s time to sleep, every dog gets an individual suite with an attached outdoor run.

Many dog owners told us their dogs get to romp around in these spacious corrals three to four times a day. Those with shy dogs also mentioned that their pups came out of their shell and became more playful after just a few days here.

The daily nose-to-toe wellness inspection also got rave reviews. People like that their dogs received individual attention, plenty of cuddles, and TLC from the staff.

Keep in mind, though, that they don’t accept any personal belongings like bedding, toys, or dishes. There’s also a $60/hr surcharge for admitting animals outside regular working hours.

Pros

  • Massive corrals for dogs to play
  • Lots of TLC from staff
  • Daily wellness inspections
  • Daily body massages
  • Comfortable suites with attached outdoor runs

Cons

  • No personal belongings allowed
  • $60/hr surcharge for outside hours admittance

Our beagle did not want to come back home

Tried them out for two nights and our beagle did not want to come back home. The amount of attention any pet gets along with the abundance of outdoor access makes this a great place to board a dog.

Best place ever for boarding my dog

Best place ever for boarding my dog.  He is made part of the family of other dogs with his same temperament and energy.   Assigned to a care person who spends time with him during the day.  There are lots of great areas to run and play.  Highly recommend them.
