OPERATING HOURS Monday –Thursday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Friday: 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM

The Varsity Community Association (VCA) has been enhancing the quality of life for Varsity residents since its incorporation in 1965. Located at 4303 Varsity Drive NW, this non-profit organization offers a wide array of programs and activities, including a community centre that hosts events, banquets, meetings, and childcare programs. The VCA is dedicated to fostering a welcoming and engaging environment for its members, supported by a volunteer board and professional staff.

One of the major pros of the VCA community centre is the diverse range of programs it offers. From group tennis lessons and summer day camps to the Loose Parts Play Program that encourages risky play for child development, there is something for everyone. Additionally, the community centre features excellent facilities such as a 3/4 NHL size ice rink, tennis courts, basketball nets, and a large community garden, providing ample recreational opportunities.

Another advantage is the sense of community and civic engagement promoted by the VCA. The association’s active Civic Affairs Committee liaises with the City of Calgary and developers to address traffic and development issues, ensuring a safe and pleasant neighborhood. Furthermore, events like Movie in the Park and Food Truck Friday, as well as the Varsity Pickleball Club, create inclusive and enjoyable social experiences for residents.

However, there are some cons to consider. The VCA’s membership requirement for participation in certain activities may be a barrier for some residents. Additionally, the availability of facilities such as the commercial kitchen rental is limited to specific hours, which may not accommodate all schedules.

In conclusion, the Varsity Community Association’s community centre is a valuable asset to the Varsity neighborhood, offering diverse programs, excellent facilities, and strong community engagement. The VCA continues to be a cornerstone of community life, promoting wellness, engagement, and enrichment for all.

Highlights

  • Active civic engagement
  • Diverse range of programs

Customer Reviews

Great place for children and adults.

“Great place for children and adults. I am a community member here though I don’t live in Dalhousie. Doesn’t it tell it all? Lol. They have so many programs for kids and adults. Their fields are full of families. I love this place. My kids go here for martial arts, soccer, sketching etc. I have never had to speak with the association members – that means never had trouble with access or their programs. Check out their website to see the variety of programs. Dalhousie and Edgemont are awesome communities to live in and raise children. Love it, love it, love it.” – Sudip Kumale

The community center itself hosts lots of events and puts out a monthly magazine, which is fantastic

“The playground here is awesome. Shady with a few picnic benches and tables. Lots of swings, a climbing rock, slides, monkey bars, etc. Gravel base. It is between the community center, which runs a preschool, and a junior high school so be prepared for it to get busy. The community center itself hosts lots of events and puts out a monthly magazine, which is fantastic. You can rent the different meeting rooms and large gym-like space. A good place to visit. ” – Carina Kwok
